Weekend - 40 Km Practice Bike Ride, Mother's Day, Alpaca Shearing....

So this past Saturday gone was a long distance practice bike ride in preparation for the 50 km Ride for Heart that I'm participating in on Sunday, June 1st.

Saturday morning was PERFECT weather!  Nice and sunny but not too hot.  It was a bit windy but I didn't really realise just how so until I got out on the bike.  Jeff drove me to meet up with some co-workers in Oak Ridges, the spot where we were all going to leave from and do a 50 km ride.  Half of our group that showed up that morning were all avid marathoners and/or both triathloners, so while I kept up with them for the first couple of kilometers, they were off and into the horizon lickity split.  There were 5 of us (half of our group) at the back and I paced myself with a seasoned cyclist that had done the Ride for Heart last year.  It was windy most of the journey, no winds behind us pushing us of course, but cross or head winds, which meant it was a bitch most of the couple of hours.  It wasn't bad at all.  I decided not to listen to my iPod because of the traffic, which was smart.  There were a TON of cyclists out that day due to such nice weather.  The back pack of us did just under 50 km, just over 38 km in 2 hours 40 minutes but with stopping and waiting for some people to catch up, I'd say it was about 2 hours 20 minutes.  I felt pretty good, I kept hydrated.  I ate a banana and orange slices at pit stops.  I half gulped down a gel pack and they are disgusting.  I guess the point is, yes they're nasty but they contain sugar so you just have to suck it up, suck it back and get on with it.  LOL

Afterwards, we went home, ate and we both had an epic 2.5 hour nap.  It was glorious.

Sunday, Mother's day.  My mom and I went out early, at 7 am and drove nearly an hour to the farm where my mom gets her raw dog food.  They have alpacas there and she was wanting some help shear them.  I definitely can't say that's something I've done before or that I've wrangled and preened alapacas.  They're really different, they make these moan/pur noises, they can spit, especially when they get pissed off but they're generally sweet animals.

So here's the weekend in pictures. Enjoy :)

Oh and I almost forgot, we went to a Blue Jays game on Sunday afternoon, Jeff, myself, our friend Bruce and his mom, Pam.. She loves the Jays so it was nice to be able to take her.

After the game, we went out for coffee at Starbucks and then had a late dinner, got some fresh groceries for lunches for the week and then headed home to see the Boys.
